Object Description White cotton manta (maiden shawl) with red and blue borders. Made of black and indigo s-spun 2-ply wool, red s-spun aniline-dyed wool, and white commercial s-spun cotton (warp) and white handspun z-spun cotton (weft). Very typical maiden shawl with white interior and black border on both ends with indigo diamond trim. Each Black/indigo border is separated from white background by a broad red band with two pair of thin white lines.Top and bottom selvages have been rolled and stitched. Side selvages have been stitched with black yarn. Length: 93.75 cm, Width: 86.5 cm, Depth: .3 cm. Tassels of 3.5 cm found on side selvages and 6cm tassels at each corner. Thread count: warp - 6 ends/cm, weft - 8 ends/cm (white), 17 ends/cm (red and black). Poor condition. The weft has worn away [see Object Description text entry for extended description]
