Object Description White cotton manta (maiden shawl) with red and blue borders. Plain weave on treadle loom in black, red and white s-spun commercially processed aniline-dyed wool. Very typical of this style of shawl, with white center and black borders on top and bottom, each separated from white by a broad red panel with two pair of white lines each. Side selvages are left as woven over thicker warp cords at edge. Top and bottom selvages have been rolled and machine-stitched with hemming tape. Length:100cm, Width: 119.75 cm, Depth .3cm. Thread count: 4 ends/cm warp, 9 ends/cm weft. This shawl is in excellent condition. Paper tag written in pencil: D', Maiden shawl, wool, Hispanic weave. 39 1/2 x 47. 12/5/93 error in measuring S.L.M."
