Object Description
Manta in brown, red and white z-spun single-ply wool. Maiden shawl, child's size. Weft-faced tapestry weave. Center white band separated from brown borders by red band. At convergence of brown and red bands are stepped horizontal traingles. Where red and white converge are four alternating stripes of white and red. All selvages wrapped in red wool. Length: 74 cm; Width: 99 cm; Depth: .3 cm. Thread count: Warp -- 4 ends/cm; Weft-- 10 ends/cm. Fair/poor condition. Quite faded, much staining, and areas where still encrusted with mud or similar substance. Side selvages disintegrating, unraveled more than an inch in places. Top and bottom selvages also beginning to disintegrate. Weft threads worn away in many areas.
