Object Description
White cotton manta (maiden shawl) with red and blue borders. Plain weave and unbalanced twill. A combination of commercially-made s-spun white cotton (warp) and handspun z-spin white cotton (weft), indigo-dyed s-spun 2-ply wool, and raveled s-spun red flannel. This shawl shows the typical style -- a broad white horizontal band in the center with indigo border (often black in other shawls) on ends. Side selvages have been blanket-stitched with indigo yarn. Indigo tassels of aprrox. 1 cm are found at each corner and also where red and white bands meet.
