Descriptions
Object Description White wool manta (maiden shawl) with red and blue borders. Made of black, white and red commercially processed, aniline-dyed s-spun wool in plain weave on a flat loom. Typical pattern used for these shawls, with a broad white horizontal band in center and black border on both ends separated from white interior by a broad red horizontal band with two pair of thin white lines. The top and bottom selvages have been rolled and machine stitched. The side selvages have been left as woven over thicker warp cords at edge. Length: 93.5 cm, Width: 124.5 cm, Depth: .3cm. Thread count: warp - 4 ends/cm; weft - 10 ends/cm. Excellent condition. Paper tag written in pencil: " Hopi Maiden's shawl. Modern-all wool. 36 1/2 x 49" Paper tag written in pencil: " Pueblo style Maiden's shawl, all wool, made on flat loom 36 1/2 x 49"
