Display Title Warp-float belt: Butterfly motif

Object Description Warp-float belt in red, green, and black. Made in the 1980's by Morlyn Atson. This belt is similar to what Kate Peck Kent calls the Hopi style, which uses black weft cords, but in this case substituting red weft cords of 4-ply commercial aniline dyed acrylic yarn. The warp elements are in red, black, and green 4-ply commercial aniline dyed acrylic yarn, re-spun to very tight. Most of belt is warp-faced plain weave, in stripes (from outer moving inward) of red, black, green, black. In the center runs a stripe of warp-floated pattern of red and black stripes running weft-wise down the belt on one side. On the reverse is a design of floated warps consisting of lines and forms like butterflies. There are approximately 140 warp elements, 14 per cm of width.
