Display Title Tapa cloth
Descriptions
Object Description White masi not as thin as those known as masi vulavula. Light-weight, square fragment that has a classic Fijian diagonal-cut fringe along the sides and is void of pigment decoration. The cloth is made from a single layer of evenly pounded inner bark fibers and has an off-white golden tone. It is probably a section cut from a larger cloth as both ends are cut. There are no joins and paste was probably not used during manufacture. The grain direction is parallel to the fringed side. There is no beater pattern, "watermark."
