Descriptions
Object Description
Ivory combs decorated with red and black ink. A & B 6 1/2" x 1/4" Spoon like tips C - 7" x 1"
Bone (?) spoon with a small concave bowl. The top of the handle (i.e. the side without the Peabody number) is decorated with a recessed geometric design that is filled in with black pigment and red paint. The reverse has a recessed criss-cross design that is filled only with coarse, matte black pigment. Note: The Embark description originally identified this material as ivory but it does not exhibit any of the morphological characteristics of elephant ivory. Under magnification it shows traces of the short striations, shallow channels and cracqelure pattern that are diagnostic for bone. Peabody Number is painted on object with black paint.
