Display Title Bone hair pin
Descriptions
Object Description Short bone hair pin with a flat triangular end, tapering to a point at the opposite end. There is a recessed design of concentric circles on the triangular end. The interstices of the design are filled with brown pigment. Note: The Embark description originally identified this material as ivory but it does not exhibit any of the morphological characteristics of elephant ivory. Under magnification it shows traces of the short striations, shallow channels and cracqelure pattern that are diagnostic for bone. Peabody Number is painted on object with black paint.
