Object Description
Boy's skin vest, worn by boys on special occasions such as parades or dances. Porcupine quill decoration of horses, American flags, French fleur-de-lis. Boy's vest constructed out of native tanned skin decorated on the front and back with zig-zag quillwork, held by sinew stitching. The quills are still brightly aniline dyed orange, purple, red, green and blue. Pairs of orange and purple silk ribbon strands are attached to the front and back of the vest. The vest is lined on the inside with a cotton textile and there is a maroon"batik" dyed cotton edging around the armholes and neck. The bottom edges of the vest and the two shoulders have attached fringes. See conservation for additional description.
