Archival Scope and Content
The collection primarily contains photographs from the1950-1961 Marshall Family Expeditions including negatives, prints, polaroids, slides and stereoview transparencies. Photograph catalogs (2001.29.1) from all expeditions document the subject of each photograph. The collection also includes genealogical cards (2001.29.2) with demographic and kinship information collected in Tsumkwe and other Ju/’hoan settlements in South West Africa by John Marshall and Claire Ritchie from 1980 to 1984.
Object Description
Collection of archival and photo-archival materials deriving from or relating to the Marshall Expeditions to South-West Africa between 1950 and 1961, including but not limited to black and white photographs and negatives; black and white, color, and stereoscopic transparencies; genealogical studies; and descriptive catalogues, index cards, detailed notes about the storage and cataloguing process, and other finding aids.
