Descriptions
Object Description
Cedar bark neck ring, ivory ornament on it; made from thickly twined, shredded cedar bark, fastened with a carved ivory ring. The combination of high andopen relief carving, incising and inlay give this small piece an exceptional richness of surface detail. It depicts adjacent male and female faces, with associated animal crests, joined from behind by a third head placed upside down, whose closed eyes contrast dramatically with the detailed open eyes of the other two figures. Bone inlays for the pupils of both human and animal eyes.
