Object Description
Stirring paddles, gatgunius hah. For stirring boiling corn and for removing corn bread from hot water when done. To illustrate preparation of corn food among Seneca Indians of Cattarangus Reservation, New York. Used in preparation of hominy and succotash (corn & beans) to stir food, which was cooked in big kettles. Sometimes elaborately carved. These paddles were also used to spank children. M.
