Object Description
Purple beans, ha-yuk. To illustrate preparation of corn food among Seneca Indians of Cattarangus Reservation, New York. Both varieties (62819 and 62920) are used mixed with corn bread. In glass jar with rounded bottom. Cork stopper has catalog number written in black ink - stopper is sealed with some kind of wax. M. Raymond Harrington in "The Preparation of Corn among the Seneca Indians": "4. Ila-yuk Purple beans" (Accession 04-23. M Raymond Harrington Papers (New York), Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology Archives).
