White Oak splint basket with swabbed on pigment.
Object Description
Mashpee artist Phoebe Pocknett (1888-1968) wove this oak splint (or thin strip of wood) basket. The basket features wrapped handles and commercial blue dye. Baskets like this one were made for use in daily life. This particular basket shows little wear, suggesting that it may have been created by the artist for sale.
