Object Description
Wood splint pedestal basket with two loop handles. White oak splints plaited in 1/1 interlacing, with tan warp elements and natural tan, medium brown, light brown, gold, and orange weft elements. Two decorative striped bands on medium brown background bordered by rows of "porcupine twist" decoration at top and bottom. Rim has reinforcing elements on both sides, attached by coiling. Tan pedestal element added by coiling. Tan pedestal element added by coiling. Dyed with walnut, blood root, and yellow root. Made by Martha Lossiah, Cherokee. Dimensions: 24.5 cm high x 30.3 max. width, including handles; 28.3 cm max. rim diameter.
