Object Description
Written on board: "Dakota Indians (Siouan) / Picture sent to Mr. Winthrop by Mr. Finotti - given by Mr. W. to the Peabody Museum July 1888. "Sitting Bull" is addressing Major McLaughlin and Col. Barrister, Ind. Agent there & Barrister special agent come to council with Indians regarding the lands. Mc L. has a light hat - the Col. a dark one - both sitting at the table. Col. Townsand of 12th infantry is officer. Others are young officers & families."
