Object Description Written on board: "Huichol / Mexico / Jalisco / 40-88 / N30398 H8119"; Typed caption on mount: "The altar to 'Grandfather Fire' at Las Latas is the center of a special / ceremony during which tiny tamales are distributed to the peyoteros by / the tenanches. Later these tamales are tossed into the central fire as an / offering to 'Grandfather Fire.' Under the altar, thrust in the ground, are / various shaman's plumes decorated with pendant hawk and eagle feathers. / Seated at the extreme left are several of the tenanches."
