Descriptions
Object Description
Carved wooden visor. Has biter of braided cedar bark, grooves inside, and brown bear design. Made from a single piece of wood; reinforced with wooden wedges inserted along interior slash lines. Exterior painted with animal-human motifs; some evidence of overpainting in red, especially in center panel. Scallped rim is incised with vertical lines. Two holes drilled front center, presumably to facilitate breathing. Stout cedar bark loop fastened with wooden pegs, projects from inner surface. Back fastenings of twined hide strips. The illustration in the Fast catalogue suggests how this might have been worn.
