Object Description
Harvard University. Cambridge, January 18, 1892. Sir: It is with great regret that I inform you of the death of Joseph Lovering. Hollis Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, Emeritus,which occurred on the 18th instant in the seventy-ninth year of his age. The funeral service will be held in Appleton Chapel on Wednesday, January 20th, at 12 M. Your obedient servant, Charles W. Eliot. [Writen by hand below this letter] Prof. Lovering was born on Christmas day 1813. He became a Trustee of the Peabody Museum in 1888, successor to Prof. Gray as President of the American Reading of Arts and Sciences. F.W. Putnam.
