Stone carving - dance scene
Descriptions
Object Description
Small stone carving of a dance scene comprised of five figures. The drummer is carved from a dark grey/black stone and is portrayed standing holding an ivory drum in one hand and an ivory stick in the other. Before him are four figures: two are seated and one carrying a child on its back is bent over and kneeling. All four figures are carved from a grey stone and facial features and details within the clothing are described by incised lines. All figure are secured to a light grey stone base that has a worked, flat surface. There is a small drilled hole near the center and it's possible that another figure or object was originally attached. At the time of examination, the standing figure is detached, revealing that a dowel/hole system was used to attach the figures to the base.
