Professional film about the Kawelka tribe of Papua New Guinea. Focuses on the culture of gift giving and receiving between Highland people. Filmed entirely on site with narration and dubbed interviews. Narrative of film follows the efforts of one the Kawelka leader in his effort to amass items for a gift to another tribe so that he could gain status by giving the biggest gift publicly. Topics discussed at length: importance of pigs, animosity between tribes, gifting ritual.
