Object Description Written on board: "Mexico / (Colhua) / Ixtacamaxtitlan / State of Puebla / Feb. 1899. Colhua. & town of S. Francisco Ixtacamaxtitlan. / The mountain city of Colhua was visited by Cortes on his / way to Tlaxcala. It is about 2000 ft above the valley, only. accessible on horseback by one path about 1000 inhabitants / when Cortes saw it & residence of the king. He was friendly / with Moctesuma. The remains consist of 1. Site of palace / with fine cement pavement on summit, & 3 groups of mounds / along the ridge, all small. They are of well cut stone, covered / with cement in parts. Some stones have carved flowers & other / ornaments. A few Indians still live there, keeping quite / apart and marrying only among themselves."
