Object Description Written on board: Oaxaca, Zapotec. Cat. No. C/10150 / Female Personage Attired in the Habiliaments of the Goddess "8 Z" (La Diosa "8 Z") / Height: 6 3/4". Color: Very light gray ceramic with lighter gray wash. Collected by John McPherson. Acquired in 1928. Epoch II of Monte Alban (B.C. 200 - A.D. 200) This goddess is the female counterpart of the God with the Buccal Mask of the Serpent. For a discussion of this category, see Caso & Bernal's "Urnas de Oaxaca," 1952, p. 163. Observe that on this Epoch II figure, (a) the breasts are delineated as slight swellings with generous nipples, and (b) her characteristic high conical coiffure with the hair parted in the center and trained over a cone-shaped frame is distinctly, if crudely, indicated. / April 1963, Photo by: Morton Bartlett, 15 Fayette St. Boston 16.
