Transcribed Annotations Written on board: "Bushmen / Gift of Dr. Bene Van Rippen / January 1918 / See Over / (verso) Three Bushmen of Lake Chryssie front view. / The boy standing behind measures 5 feet 5 inches, / and was placed there for comparison. / These men always lived at Lake Chryssie and / remember no other abode. They lived there - their / national state until the boers came, for whom / they are now employed as farm hands. They are / trustful and hard workers and exceed the ordinary / [offensive term] in faithfulness. They are very fond of / eating snails frogs and different kinds of roots. / Photographed at Lake Chryssie / August 1917 by / Bene van Rippen D.M.D."
