Apple River Valley explorations, Kraft Group, Portage, IL, mounds. PM Expedition WB Nickerson. Verso: handwritten notes: Northwestern wall of block 3 of sec. VII and block 5 of sec. VIII. See VIII the right half. Long streak near bottom, the clay floor, removed in block 3, but remaining and showing a corner in block 5. Middle clay lies below the three light spots higher up The light spots are remnants of roof poles of the central cist.Lines on face of wall thrown out of place by position of same (sketch lines). Clay streaks in grey ash in upper part distinctly shown on right side. The western corner of the central cist lay at the corner of clay floor visible in the picture.
