Object Description Written on board: "35-10 / Tibet / Great Mani Drums which encircle the monastery. They are jammed / with thousands of prayers written on bits of paper. The drum is / pivoted top and bottom by an axle. There is a continual procession / of laity and clergy about the monastery, whirling these drums. / Each whirl, and one is credited with having uttered so many / thousands of prayers - thus storing up much "merit" in the / Hereafter (4 to 6 feet in heights). / Gift of Harrison Forman / The Explorers Club / New York City."
