Object Description
Written on board: "Maori / New Zealand / 1-7: Hei Tiki, greenstone (hard jade-like material). Since the / Maoris had no cutting tools, the figures were made only / by years of rubbing the material into shape with sand & / water. (A Tiki is a memorial to an ancestor, valued / for mana. Possession of one shows high rank. They are / worn around the neck.) / 8-12: Kaka Poria, greenstone. Used for snaring birds. / 9-11: Maire. Fibulae for fastening mats; whalebone; / about 5" long. Worn by men only. / 13: Koropepe or Manaia. A very rare greenstone ornament."
