Archival Scope and Content
Contains correspondence relating to translation of interview tapes from the expeditions of 1952-1953 and 1955 by L.F. Maingard, a linguist at the University of Witwatersrand. Maingard was with the 1955 expedition for part of the time. Additional correspondence on Maingard will be found in the expedition correspondence. Also included are Maingard's translations of the 1953 tapes with a memorandum on his methods and a statement of purpose from the Peabody for linguistic recordings dated 5/5/55. This material was removed from accession file 58-43D.
