Descriptions
Object Description "Onion dome" knob-top whaling chief’s hat (conical hat topped by an onion-shaped dome). Decorated with scenes of an idealized whale hunt, in which the whales are portrayed in much more realistic detail than the people. Four whale boats pursue two already-harpooned whales. Viewed from above, the design suggests a spiral converging on the center.
