Descriptions
Inventory Description
Canoe, carved wood, planed smooth, no varnish, widest at center, tapered at ends. Upturned, tapered stern and bow extensions, one with two bands of red fiber tassels. Carved black and white zoomorphic figures at either end representing dog, fish, and birds. Wooden seams are sealed with black resin material, and inlaid with shaped pieces of white shell arranged in geometric patterns. Edges near bow and stern carved and incised with geometric patterns, infilled with same resin material. Small designs of black and white pigment at either end. Interior contains four curved wooden braces, each secured with fiber cordage. Two additional wooden braces at either end of cavity, connected with four bands of woven fiber.
