Object Description
Brocaded ceremonial sash of white cotton with red, black and green wool woven to each end for ca. 45 cm. design (geometric). Red ribbons are applied to each end. 250 cm. long, 25 cm. wide. Hopi ceremonial brocaded sash c. 1940, made in plain weave with brocaded patterns on ends. Warp is of s-spun 4-ply white cotton. Weft is of s-spun 4-ply white wool, and brocade is of red, green, blue and black wool, s-spun, 4-ply. Brocaded pattern as follows: Black horizontal bands with undulating stepped white triangles; solid green band; solid black band with four pair of narrow vertical white lines; solid blue band; narrow solid black band; wide green band in typical Hopi style with two red bordered diamonds with red and white triangle pattern inside, separated by three pairs of narrow[see Object Description text entry for extended description]
