Object Description
Siapo tasina. A medium weight, evenly beaten cloth decorated by rubbing over upeti with freehand overpainting. The cloth is composed of two layers of off-white inner bark. The grain direction of the two layers are perpendicular; they are pasted and beaten together yielding a relatively stiff hand. All four edges of the cloth are cut. The decoration is applied to one side comprising of patterns made by rubbing over design tablets and painting by freehand. A vague brownish rubbing showing a regular network of rectangular and squares containing linear (diamonds, zizgzags) and flowers appear in the background. The foreground is highlighted with round dots and crescent shapes; the network of squares and rectangles are also highlighted. No beater impressions are evident.
