Object Description
Pair of tassels to be attached to Hopi wedding manta, on the lower two corners, dating to 1980s. The tassels are on wooden dowels, hand carved, about 1 cm in diameter and 28.5 cm long, and are probably incomplete tassels in process, after which time the dowels would be removed. The tassels themselves are 19 cm long, including the fringe. They are composed of commercial cotton yarn, 4 ply z-spun s-twisted, which is clustered to form the core of the "ear" of corn, and which is also used as warp elements in the "ear" of the corn tassel, where a dark brown acrylic yarn is wrapped around the white base letting the white show through the brown wrap in a geometric pattern the length of the "ear".
