Descriptions
Object Description
Unusual woman's or girl's robe made of bison calf skin, partly painted with dark brown pigment and cross-hatching of clear (now yellowed) sizing, partly quilled with a "lined box" motif. Only the lower portion of the robe was finished. Torrence noted that the three squared "star" motifs painted under the arched bands along the bottom may be unique to this robe. Red wool tufts are inserted into the quillwork near the juncture between colors. Remnants of tie thongs are attached to the shoulders on the decorated side. The edges of the robe are crenulated or fringed, and fragments of hoof remain on the legs.
