Descriptions
Indigenous Term Tapa
Object Description Tapa, made of several pieces of barkcloth glued together, two layers thick, with a design on one side. The design is possibly a combination of modern and traditional motifs, rubbed on using a design tablet or "upeti." The reddish-brown and black colors, as well as the triangular and crescent designs, are traditional. The palm trees and center writing- probably referring to an occasion for which the cloth was made- and the numbering of the strips are all modern developments.
