Object Description
Figure of female cotton picker mounted on wooden base; carved wax head, limbs; nicely detailed face with carved wrinkles, modelled ears and cheekbones; blackened brows, lashes, lid linings, pupils; brown eyes; whitened eye-whites; pink lips; cigar; she is wearing a straw hat, which is pinned to her head, white cotton shirt with three-quarter length sleeves gathered and hemmed, small shawl pinned through her chest ( shawl covers stitched pattern on shirt), dark brown head-covering under hat which continues down back to hip length, dark brown hemmed skirt to lower-calf length, roped at the waist, and two white petticoats; she is carrying a cotton bundle, bound up with a rope which is slung over her left shoulder and held with her right hand. Left hand may have held something originally. The figure is jointed at the shoulders.
