Object Description
Written on board: "Bell County, Texas. 34-119. / Intricately carved shell gotget - owned by Dr. Alex Dienst Temple. Exact history not known; obtained from an itinerant horse trader. / Figure on right seems to represent the thunderbird or eagle; that on right may be some mythical creature, probably a conventionalized form of the plumed serpent. They appear to be engaged in combat. Note presence of holes at the center and right edge of gorget. / Diameter varies from 5 3/16" to 5 9/16". / Gift of J. E. Pearce, Chairman, Department of Anthropology, University of Texas."
