Object Description
Written on board: "Lamar County, Texas. 34-119. / T. M. Sanders farm, 1 mi. W. of Direct. / Shell gorget from Burial B-20 -- in Burial Mound on Bois d' Arc Creek, 1/2 mi. from Red River. Depth 26". Bird represents a turkey cock - with a cross background. Note spurrs, wattle and beard. Diameter of ornament 4 3/4". On top of gorget was found a large pearl bead both beneath the chin of the dead. (In same grave were two other unusual offerings -- large stone earplugs, bearing a sheet of hammered copper over outer side. / Gift of J. E. Pearce, Chairman of Department of Anthropology, University of Texas."
