Object Description Written on board: "Serpent Mound Park, Adams Co., Ohio. / Peabody Museum Amer. Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. / John Cone Kimball, Photographer, 1887. / 9 -- THe Oval embankment, seen from the head of the Serpent, with the small Mound of stones near the centre of the level space enclosed. The Oval is 60 ft. wide and 121 ft. long." The embankment covering the bottom of the picture is the curved embankment which extends across the mouth of the serpent, and at its nearest point is nine and one-half feet from the oval.
