Written on board: "Serpent Mound Park, Adams Co., Ohio. / Peabody Museum of Amer. Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. / John Cone Kimball, Photographer, 1887. / 7 -- View along the Southern side of Oval ambankment, a portion of which is shown in the corner of the picture at the right.
The ground around this embankment, and also inside of it, was carefully levelled at the time of making the embankment, as was shown on removing the sod and recently formed soil."
