Object Description
Basketry hat, possibly depicting a bird; twined spruce root hat with typical flat crown. Overpainting in black and red with wolf motifs. Decorative diamond twining on brim. Mythical sea grizzly represented on this spruce root hat is painted with vermilion, a red pigment that was an important trade item throughout North America.
