Object Description Written on board: "Oaxaca, Zapotec. Cat. No. C/10145 Seated Male Personage attired in the Habiliaments of the god Xipe Totec (Dios Xipe Totec) Height: 19 1/2". Color: Light brown ceramics with light gray wash. Collection of John McPherson; Acquired by the Museum in 1928. For discussion of this category, see Caso & Bernal's Urnas de Oaxaca, 1952, 249. This piece ascribed to Epoch III-B of Monte Alban. (A.D. 700 - 1050) The God of Spring traditionally thought to be an inigenous Zapotc deity, on whose feastday a victim was flayed and a priest put on his skin.
