Object Description
Written on board: Oaxaca, Zapotec. Cat. No. 47126 / The Jaguar God (Dios Tigre) / Height: 6". Color: Very dark gray ceramic with a light tan wash and vestiges of red pigment. This piece shows the jaguar couchant facing the corner of a pedestal on which is a toponymic. Epoch III-A. (A.D. 350 - 600) Note tiger's paws without claws but with four toes designed like fingers. The transverse design on the shell bell appears on most other bells. Collected by G.W.E.
