Descriptions
Object Description
Kayak frame (THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED DURING THE WATERCRAFT RESTORAGE PROJECT, 9/2000):
Kayak framework made of wood (there is no skin covering or portal). Wood ribs/struts and rails are joined and lashed together with sinew. There are pieces of textile inserted into the mortises of the rails; these pieces of textile appear to be used to tighten the fit between the rib/strut ends and the mortises in which they are inserted.
On the interior of the framework on the starboard side, amidships, there is a small wooden awl-like tool and a piece of cloth which serves to hold the awl-like tool in place.
The catalog # (95297) is written in red on the curved piece of wood, amidships (which appears to serve as a support for skin decking).
