Object Description
Written on board: "Maori / New Zealand / 1: Pouwhenua, commonly used as a Taiaha. No decoration except for / a grotesque head near the point. 4feet long. / 2-5: Taiaha: the most important of two-handed weapons, also used as / a staff by chiefs. Blade usually carved to represent a tongue / extending from the face represented on the handle. No. 4 is / adorned with Kaka feathers and kuri hair. / 6: Tewhatweha. Grotesque head carved on blade. Used like an axe. / Blow is struck with the thick of the blade. (21)"
