Written on album page: "Graves in Trees. / As we were preparing to take this picture -accompanied by the Government's / Agent's wife, herself an Educated Indian -the woman had left her company, coming to / the agency, and come down the hill, and began crying. 'My son, my son, why did you not / die on the battle field, rather than lie here to be made sport of by strangers, -(as the / Agent's wife afterward interpreted it to us)."
