Descriptions
Object Description
Written on board: "La Mar, Chiapas. Second Stela. (verso) 2nd Stela. On a terrace near the Western temple. No sculpture on the back side. Sculpture of the upper piece is effaced. Five of the seven personages are preserved. Splendid colors still well preserved. Every man has in one hand an oval stone (?) with two ribbons hanging down. Why is not this the same as the "oval stones" which one finds in the ruins? (I have several in my collection), and the groove around it, does not this server for fastening the ribbons? Somewhat far from the river Usumacinta, still on the left side. The colors in my description are given exactly as they occur. I believe that the scripture of these magnificent stelae is of great interest for comparison with others." [See Object Description text entry for complete object description.]
