Object Description
Large piece of tapa cloth. Siapo vala. Medium-weight two layer cloth with decoration primarily on one side. Grain direction is lengthwise on face and opposite on rear. Overlapping pasted joins. All four edges have been cut edged in a narrow black line (glossy black paint). Cloth was rubbed over a design tablet in a matte red-brown with additional freehand painting in a glossy resinous brown-black paint. Black paint lines create rectangular blocks and cross-motifs in the blocks. See additional notes under conservation report.
