Carved wooden ancestor figure (kawe)
Tall wood figure carved in stylized likeness of woman with arms straight at sides. The figure has a pierced nose with stick and open mouth showing teeth. The brow is deeply cut and the eyes are set back. The sculpture is decoratively carved/incised overall with curvilinear lines, diamond, crescent, and chevron designs. Pigment use is evident throughout with muted red, black and white used in incised decoration and on raised surfaces.
